This article describes how to install Microsoft SQL Server manually for visitor id. Please follow these instructions if Microsoft SQL Server fails to install correctly during the visitor id installation, or if you chose to skip installing Microsoft SQL Server during the visitor id installation to install Microsoft SQL Server manually.
Step 1: Downloading Microsoft SQL Server 2017 Express
Microsoft SQL Server 2017 Express can be downloaded from the following link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=55994
Click the ‘Download’ button and save the file to the master visitor id PC.
Step 2: Installing Microsoft SQL Server 2017 Express
- Run the downloaded installer and accept any UAC prompts.
- Choose the ‘Custom’ installation type:
- Press the ‘Install’ button:
- Wait for the process to finish and the ‘SQL Server Installation Center’ window will appear.
- Press the ‘New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation’ option:
- Wait for the ‘SQL Server 2017 Setup’ window to appear, then press tick the ‘I accept the license terms.’ checkbox and press the ‘Next >’ button:
- The installation will now check for product updates and install the setup files. If the ‘Install Rules’ window appears and shows a warning for the ‘Windows Firewall’ just click the ‘Next >’ button. - In the ‘Feature Selection’ window, choose the following items as per the below image, then press the ‘Next >’ button:
- In the ‘Instance Configuration’ window, make sure ‘Named instance’ is chosen and change the name to ‘VISITORID’, then press the ‘Next >’ button:
- In the ‘Server Configuration’ window, change the ‘SQL Server Browser > Startup Type’ to ‘Automatic’, then press the ‘Next >’ button:
- In the ‘Database Engine Configuration’ window:
- Microsoft SQL Server 2017 Express will now start installing. If there are any errors during this process they will be displayed on screen to troubleshoot. If you do receive errors during the installation, please take a screenshot of the errors and send an email to support@visitorid.com.au .
- If the installation was successful the ‘Complete’ window will be displayed. Press the ‘Close’ button to finish the installation:
Step 3: Downloading Microsoft SQL Server Management Tools
- While the ‘SQL Server Installation Center’ window is still open, press the ‘Install SQL Server Management Tools’ item:
- In the browser window that opens up, press the ‘Download SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)’ link to start the download:
Step 4: Install Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
- Once the download has completed, run the installer and accept any UAC prompts.
- In the ‘Welcome’ window, press the ‘Install’ button:
- Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio will now start installing. If there are any errors during this process they will be displayed on screen to troubleshoot. If you do receive errors during the installation, please take a screenshot of the errors and send an email to support@visitorid.com.au .
- A restart of the PC may be required to complete the installation. Press the ‘Restart’ button:
